Unfortunately, Giffords was 'targeted' from both Left and Right

From Democratic source Daily Kos, graphics similar to those Palin was criticized for.

ETA: Added detail on source of map.

[A] nearly identical map, included in a Democratic Leadership Committee publication in 2004, featured nine bullseyes over regions where Republican candidates were considered vulnerable that year, and was accompanied by a caption reading: TARGETING STRATEGY. A smaller caption, beneath the bullseyes, read: BEHIND ENEMY LINES. The map illustrated an article on campaign strategy by Will Marshall of the Progressive Policy Institute…

False equivalence. Daily Kos doesn't have *nearly* the impact that Fox News does, and note that Giffords' is part of a list, but her state is not targeted.

Is your point which map Loughner would be more likely to have seen? My point is that both sides are 'guilty' of using the same sort of imagery for the same sort of message. The Dems used one symbol per state; Palin used one per district. Note the warlike phrase "Behind enemy lines."

Iirc, KOS got this from the Democratic National Committee, who put it out in many places. Palin's appeared on her own sites; dunno if it was on Fox till the Democrats made it an issue.

There's no target over Arizona in the Daily Kos link.

Fox News is ubiquitous and nearly inescapable in some parts of the country. I don't know if Tucson is one of them, but I know all along the Eastern Seaboard, in the Red areas, every business I went to that had a TV, was tuned to Fox - supermarkets, banks, and I think at least one post office.

(Actually, also in the Blue areas that were catering to tourists, as I was seeing Fox in hotel breakfast rooms and lobbies.)

Are you looking for direct links to the Arizona shooting? I'm looking at type of imagery that might promote a nationwide 'climate of anger' etc.

Imo Loughner probably never saw either map.

I don't think Loughner was acting in response to any one thing, nor acting as the agent of any specific agenda. I do think that *if he is indeed mentally ill, in a delusional state*, that there has been a suffocating blanket of rightwing hate for him to draw his target concept from.
