moderation tool: editing comment text

bemused_leftistOn the question of what tools for moderation we should request the blog services such as LJ to set up ... I'd say the main thing would be blog owner access to the text of the posted comments. That would allow the blog owner to disemvowel or put the comment into small text or whatever.
Imo often it would be useful to just plain go in and censor PARTS of a post, such as bleeping out profanity, or taking out one or two senteces of personal insult from a post that is mostly making good points. This sort of pruning would keep whatever is good in the post, and show the poster exactly what was wrong.
