Here's more detail on how the "Ground Zero Mosque" flap got started.

My memory from the time was that Gingrich and others were bashing Islam, making really crazy accusations about terrorist activities they said would happen in the facility, and saying at best that the backers were being deliberately provocative (Moon's position), and that it somehow should be forcably stopped. Then Palin came in with relatively peace-making messages, recognizing the backers' good intentions and politely asking them to consider feelings.
"Peace-seeking Muslims, pls understand, Ground Zero mosque is UNNECESSARY provocation; it stabs hearts. Pls reject it in interest of healing," she tweeted.
